Children barn dancing

I was a primary classroom teacher for sixteen years, including seven years as a Deputy Head, and I hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate for working with young people.

There is clear anecdotal evidence that country dancing in the early years of education yields positive and lasting learning benefits in terms of social education, physical co-ordination and gains in concentration and attention span.  With those learning outcomes firmly in mind, Barn Dances for Everyone is committed to helping primary and preparatory schools re-establish country dancing in the curriculum.

Barn dances for schoolsI can help you develop a country dancing programme for your school, either running during lesson time as part of the PE and/or music curriculum or as a lunchtime or after-school activity, and I can offer extra “teaching the teachers” sessions to give your staff the confidence and expertise to carry on developing the programme within your school.  If the interest is there, I’ll also teach some morris dancing, with sticks and bells and live music on the melodeon: that always goes down well at the PTA summer fete!

And what about a country dance afternoon for parents in the summer term, with each class displaying what they’ve learned?

I’m happy to run an expenses-only “taster” session for your staff team – just get in touch and let’s talk about how we might develop a country dancing programme in your school.
